Services

We carry out a comprehensive list of services from routine vaccinations through to elective surgery.

Pre-purchase Examinations

We usually encourage clients to have a 5 stage vetting including blood sampling. Two stage vettings are performed as well as mortality insurance vettings and comprehensive insurance vettings. (When changing insurance companies, or increasing horses value to be covered). Both Ed Shaw and Rob Walsh have travelled to continental Europe and Ireland to perform pre-purchase examinations on high value horses. Click on the link to enter details on our Vetting request form.

Vettings

We do a lot of examinations for purchases each year (vettings). These can be 5 stage where the horse is assessed at rest and exercise then again post exercise or less often 2 stage if the horse is extremely cheap (ie child's pony) or unbroken; the latter is an inferior examination and as such a disclaimer is signed by the purchaser prior to it being undertaken. If you would like to book a vetting you can complete a Vetting Request Form and email to info@cornerhousevets.com or call the surgery.

Diagnostic Imaging

We have the full range of digital radiography and ultrasonography units. Investigations can be carried out at the clinic or at our client’s premises. Cases for scintigraphy are referred at present.

Surgery

We have a state of the art operating theatre and recovery box. Surgery can be performed under general anaesthetic or under continuous infusion (i/v drip), sedation and regional analgesia. Most of the routine surgery is performed by Robert Walsh whilst the specialist orthopaedic surgery is performed by a visiting specialist. At the moment colic surgeries are referred. Arthroscopy and laparoscopy are available in house.

In Patient Care

We have expert veterinary and nursing staff to look after our in patients. There is 24 hour personnel presence in addition to web cam monitoring and surveillance.

Dentistry

All routine and advance dental procedures are performed by our vets. We are all trained and competent in using motorised dental tools, (Dearson 8000 system, Le Clair Dental, Dremel High Speed Burr). Wolf teeth extraction requires sedation and occasionally local anaesthetic. Molar extractions can be carried out standing in our stocks or under general anaesthetic.

AI / Breeding in Mares

During the breeding season we cater for mares that require chilled and frozen semen AI. The mares can be accommodated at the clinic and the stocks are used to ensure safety to personnel and patient. There is the facility to store frozen semen at the clinic.

Endoscopy, gastroscopy

Video endoscopy is used to investigate conditions of the upper respiratory tract and in some poor performance cases for gastroscopy to assess gastric ulceration.

Lameness and poor performance investigation

The clinic has a high through-put of lameness cases that require diagnostic analgaesia (nerve blocking) and diagnostic imaging (x-raying and scanning). We can observe horse being ridden after performing diagnostic analgaesia to diagnose subtle performance issues.

Remedial farriery

We tend to liaise very closely with our clients own farrier resolve most remedial issues or we can arrange specialist opinions at the clinic.
